GemType is a browser extension for Chrome and Safari that provides real-time grammar checking, spelling correction, and text rewriting directly in any web text field. It works across platforms like Gmail, LinkedIn, X, Reddit, and GitHub without requiring an account or subscription.
The tool uses the user's own Google AI Studio API key to access Gemini, ensuring no third-party servers handle or store text. All processing is done client-side with only the necessary text sent to Google's API — no tracking, analytics, or telemetry is included.
It supports on-demand rewriting actions (Improve, Fix, Shorten, Formal, Casual) via floating toolbar or right-click menu, and includes sentence-level verification to prevent grammatical inconsistencies after corrections.
